Helga (Grüllig) Oltrogge

Helga (Grüllig) Oltrogge

Born: August 2nd, 1929

Passed on: April 4th, 2018

Helga Erna (Grüllig) Oltrogge passed away at Weston Terrace in Toronto, Ontario in the early morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in her 88th year. She is survived by her beloved husband Godfrey Oltrogge. Loving mother of Esther Oltrogge (Robert Macaulay) and Miriam Oltrogge (Michael Doherty). Proud grandmother of Charlotte and Kurt Macaulay, Evan and Reese Doherty. She will be missed by her dear brother Günther Grüllig (Brigitte), and her many nieces and nephews in Germany. She is now reunited with her dear late sister Gerda Grüllig. Helga was born in Görlitz Germany on August 2, 1929, the daughter of Max Johannes Grüllig and Frieda Erna Wieland. After immigrating to Canada, Helga was a dedicated worker for the Salvation Army Children’s Home from 1959 – 1969. Thereafter, she worked for the Ministry of Health until her retirement and sorrowfully missed her work with children. Helga was an adventurer and loved many things including road trips to Florida, Liberty Corner, and northern Ontario cottage country. She loved canoeing, camping, and hiking, and loved the European bakeries in Bloor West Village. She took every opportunity to spoil and spend time with her grandchildren. Her generosity of spirit was ever present throughout her life. We were blessed to know you mom and we will meet again one sweet day. A memorial service for Helga will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Salvation Army York Community Church, 1100 Weston Road, Toronto, Ontario, M6N 3S4 officiated by Captain Royal Senter. Helga found happiness in giving to people and animals in need in her community. As an expression of sympathy donations to the Salvation Army are appreciated or in true Helga spirit pay it forward by doing an act of kindness for someone in need around you.
